The RSA founded Focus on Food Campaign. Established to raise the profile and strengthen the position of cooking in primary and secondary schools nationwide. The Campaign produces high quality teaching and learning materials including COOK SCHOOL the termly food education magazine for teachers; delivers an outreach support programme using four Cooking Buses, ‘state of the art’ mobile kitchen classrooms; trains teachers; organizes Focus on Food Week; presents annual lectures and lobbies for more and better provision for food education in schools.

  • Food Explorers – a new programme of food education teaching materials for a major food retailer. Focus – increasing young people’s consumption of fruit and vegetables.
     
  • The Food Partnership – DH/DfES pilot programme for teacher training (Food in Schools) delivered in partnership with the British Nutrition Foundation and DATA.
     
  • Applaudit!: An Arts Council of England (Yorkshire and Humberside Arts) programme to improve the profile of the arts in schools and to enhance the quality of school environments through exhibitions in schools’ public areas.
     
  • Forging Futures: A programme focusing on the built environment for schools in Sheffield. It brought together the city planners/architects, the schools of architecture and school pupils and teachers. A wide range of school projects were developed. The work contributed to the city’s Millenium bid to redevelop the city centre.
     
  • CASA: The Calderdale Arts in Schools Association. A wide-ranging series of courses for teachers including theatre arts, automata, costume design, painting and sculpture.
     
  • Inside the Design Mind: A Royal Society of Arts series of illustrative case studies exploring the ways designers work on a range of projects: architecture/interior design, exhibition design, graphic design, product design, ceramics and design management.
     
  • TAP: The Theatre Arts Project: A curriculum development initiative linking theatre arts and design. Participating schools received training with professional performers, musicians and designers to develop new curriculum work with students and generate and awareness of design in the creation of theatre.
     
  • School Management by Design: a training pack of specialist material underpinning a series of courses for headteachers on utilizing design as a resource in effective school management.
     
  • RSA North: A series of Masterclass presentations, lectures and seminars in partnership with the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.
